Childcare center makes progress, looks at different options

The Childcare Committee of the Amery City Council had their first meeting and continue to move forward with getting childcare to the area. After discussing with the rest of the committee, Alderperson Mykaela Thompson went over a few ideas to facilitate having a childcare facility. So far, they are starting off well, with a construction company looking at a potential space for free.

“There's kind of two things going on. The plan commission has requested that we investigate the old hospital space a little bit further,” said Thompson. “Derek Construction has agreed to look at that space for free and give us an estimate of what it would look like to update that space. I personally have a lot of reservations about going down that road just based off of our past experience and who owns it and who's investing the money in it and where is the rent going. And I think that gets really complicated. So it's not completely being ruled out, we're investigating it a little bit further, but that's one avenue.”
