A proposal by Ridgeland-based Synergy Co-op to add a fertilizer plant and related facilities to its Almena campus has been approved by the Barron County Board of Adjustment, following a hearing on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the County Government Center in Barron.

Board members passed an amended motion at the meeting to allow a 20,000 square-foot fertilizer plant, a 17,500 square-foot agronomy building, and several stormwater holding ponds on a site to the east of its existing operation, at the southeast corner of U.S. Hwy. 8 and County Hwy. P at Almena.

Once complete, the new buildings will take the place of Synergy’s existing agronomy operation, which is located on Garfield Avenue on the west side of the village.
